Here's the latest from the Synergy Events team at SmashZone at the US Open: Fans headed to the tournament on Thursday, September 9 are in for a special treat as Mary Joe Fernandez will stop by SmashZone to meet and greet families in Center Court. Admission to SmashZone is free for all fans who have a US Open ticket.

Fernandez, the former Grand Slam champion, Olympic Gold medalist and current tennis commentator for ESPN and CBS Sports, will lead a kids' clinic and sign autographs.

She will also discuss her latest project called Everyone Breathe, a new online asthma resource and one of this year's SmashZone sponsors.  Fernandez has lived with asthma all her life but has managed to keep it under control after receiving a proper diagnosis. Now as the mother of a child with asthma, she is encouraging parents to advocate for their child's health and serve as their champion against asthma.

SmashZone is the premiere fan interactive in tennis. Located in the USTA Indoor Training Center, SmashZone provides fun for the whole family while showcasing a new, confidence-building play format which makes it easier for kids 10 and under to pick up a racquet and have fun - even if they've never played before.

In addition to playing on the 36-foot Center Court, fans of all ages can participate in other fun-filled activities including a rally wall and fast serve cages. Fans can also have their picture taken with the US Open trophy in the Olympus photo booth, play Wii tennis, tour the International Tennis Hall of Fame Gallery, and broadcast a US Open point in the "You Call the Shots" interactive.

If you are out at the US Open tomorrow, be sure to stop by SmashZone for an update on the exact time of Fernandez's appearance.
