NASA announced this week that New York City will be one of four cities awarded a space shuttle
The Enterprise, the first shuttle to be built, will be coming to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. The other three shuttles will “land” at the Kennedy Space Center, the California Science Center and the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center.

According to NASA's Charles Bolden these facilities were chosen for their "legacy of preserving space artifacts and outstanding access to US and international visitors."
Synergy plays a role
Winning one of the four shuttles caps a two-year campaign, which included grassroots marketing tactics and political lobbying by New York Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kristen Gillibrand.
Synergy Events is proud to have played a small role at the beginning of the campaign. In May 2009 Synergy deployed street teams with electronic tablets to engage consumers, educate them on the opportunity and allow them to pledge their support. Over the course of three days, our team conducted thousands of interviews and collected pledges.
"We are excited for the Intrepid and the future impact for New York City, and are thrilled that the grassroots campaign was successful in spreading the word and interest about the space shuttle opportunity," said Peter Hurley, president of Synergy Events.
It is estimated that the Enterprise, which will be housed within glass on Pier 86, will increase attendance by 300,000 per year.
